The Hammam Ritual

A traditional Moroccan body-cleansing ritual centred on warmth, Black Beldi paste and purposeful exfoliation.

The hammam at home

Turn cleansing into a complete ritual.

The Moroccan hammam prepares the skin with warmth, softens it with Black Beldi soap paste and lifts away loosened surface skin with a Kessa glove.

Black Beldi is not a bar soap. It is a soft, coarse olive-black paste traditionally applied to warm, damp skin. Each stage prepares the skin for the next, which is why the order matters.

The method

The hammam, step by step.

Take your time. Warmth and preparation allow the ritual to work without aggressive scrubbing.

Prepare the skin01
Warm and soften

Prepare the skin

Take a warm shower or allow steam to soften damp skin. Spread a thin layer of Black Beldi paste over the body.

Allow the paste to work02
Rinse

Allow the paste to work

Leave the paste briefly on the warmed skin, then rinse it away thoroughly before exfoliating.

Use the Kessa glove03
Exfoliate

Use the Kessa glove

On damp skin, use controlled strokes with the Kessa glove. Rinse away loosened surface skin and finish with moisturiser or body oil.

Important

Do not use the Kessa glove on the face, broken or irritated skin. Begin gently and avoid excessive pressure.
